Mobilizing Communities for Action - annual awareness and education conference
The NC Minority Prostate Cancer Awareness Action Team holds an annual awareness conference. Mobilizing Communities for Action serves to bring Action Team members and supporters together to celebrate the year's work. The purpose of the conference is to share successful outreach strategies and "on the ground" success stories, and to recognize individuals that have made an exceptional contribution to the work of the Action Team.

Planning Retreat
"He who fails to plan, plans to fail"
Each year Action Team leaders convene to review annual goals and establish plans for the next year. Dr. Dudley Flood, professional meeting facilitator, Action Team member and prostate cancer survivor personally facilitates the event. This event establishes the vision, direction, strategy and tactics necessary to continue moving towards the Action Team’s long established organizational goals.
All Action Team members are encouraged to participate in this day long session.
Annual Community Screenings
EARLY DETECTION is the key to overcoming the high incidence of prostate cancer among African-American men! The NC Minority Prostate Cancer Awareness Action Team has developed a powerful model for organizing community prostate cancer screenings. The screening provides critical services necessary to insure that all men have access to mechanisms that facilitate the early detection of prostate cancer, specifically the PSA blood test and the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE). Action Team model screenings are highly successful in both urban and rural settings and encompass marketing, recruitment, organization, documentation and follow-up.
Golf Tournament
Founded on four cardinal principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Uplift and Perseverance, the brothers of the Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. hosts a Celebrity Golf Classic to raise money to support prostate cancer education and awareness. The proceeds traditionally support the work of the Action Team. The Classic is typically held at the Crossing Golf Club in Durham, NC.
Community Walks
College students unit to bring attention to this "forgotten" cancer that affects the lives of millions of men and their families. The inspiration for the walk has grown out of concern for the lack of awareness and availability of early detection resources for underserved men regarding prostate cancer. Students gather at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) on the day of local community prostate screenings, wearing blue ribbon pins, bracelets and other awareness items the students walk together as an expression of support of local community screening efforts.
